Thank you William. That about sums up Michael Ignatieff for if what Mr. Ignatieff said in the BBC is correct and in context (Quebec is headed for independence), he is a bigger idiot than I originally thought. Fortunately, this comes from the faux politician who turned down the Prime Ministership when handed to him and then went on to prognosticate that under his leadership, the federal Liberal Party will go on to great things. They had to settle for one of their greatest defeats barley hanging on to official party …

I was rushing home from my meeting today because I wanted to write a blog about the Michael Ignatieff and the Liberals. It’s no secret that I had little faith in the federal Liberals capability to win an election and form a government. Ever since the Ignatieff turned down the opportunity to be prime minister and opted for opposition leader instead, I knew he and his “advisors” were not serious politicians.
In this election, all the Liberals had to do was to hold onto the seats that they had and to …

In reading back my last posts on my blog, I can only say that “I was kidding about the PM Layton thing”. Who knew that this election would evolve into what it has become: A Conservative majority government or an NDP coalition government?
This all started with the collapse of the Bloc Quebecois vote in the province of Quebec. In spite of a relatively good debate performance, Bloc leader, Gilles Duceppe failed to inspire Quebecers that his steadfast approach in Ottawa was what was needed to fight for Quebec. It …

CFRA radio host, Rob Snow, explained the choice Canadians face in the May 2nd federal election. The choice is either a majority Conservative government or a coalition government.
Listen here
There is nothing constitutionally wrong with a coalition government but any makeup of such a government would include, at least in support, the Bloc Quebecois. Is that what the rest of Canada really wants?
And Michael Ignatieff is a strange dude. He rejects a coalition when handed to him by outgoing Liberal leader Stephane Dion in 2009 but now when …

With less than two weeks to go until Election Day, it’s finally being made clear to the Canadian public that their choice is clear. They can either vote for a Conservative majority government or a coalition Liberal government.
Two Ottawa Sun articles make this point:
Coalition question rises once again
Harper keeps mum on political future
The first article quotes Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff stating that the Liberals could form a government if a minority Conservative government can’t get the confidence of the house. The second article ponders the future of Conservative leader Stephen …

Stephen Harper’s feet are paddling fast but he doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Most polls show him still shy of winning a majority. But I’m not sure it’s the opposition parties that are stopping Harper from going over the top in terms of a majority of seats. It’s how some Canadians feel about Harper himself and the connection is lacking. Truth be told, Michael Ignatieff and Jack Layton don’t really care if either of their parties can win a plurality of seats. All that matters to …

At first I didn’t think there was a knockout punch in the English debate but in hindsight, there was. It wasn’t delivered between Conservative leader Stephen Harper and Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff. That’s why it didn’t stand out at first. It was in fact a blow, a potentially fatal blow, that NDP leader Jack Layton landed on Mr. Ignatieff.
Around the 59 minute mark of the debate, Mr. Layton calls out Mr. Ignatieff on the number of votes that the opposition leader has missed as a member of …

With little movement in the polls from the start of the election, a lot of Canadians are asking why are we having an election? There are no gripping issues so why can’t the parties just work together and govern?
Tonight’s debate will define this election as one that was needed in order to bring trust and transparency to parliament or about guiding the steady ship economically through the worldwide recession waters.
Green Party Leader Elizabeth May will not be participating in the debate. The other four parties are debating; Consevative Party, Liberal …

As I listen to the platforms of the two leading parties, the Conservatives and the Liberals, I can’t help but feel I’m in a time warp. For those of you who are old enough or study Canadian politics, the scripts and speeches being given by the party leaders are reminiscent of the ones orated by the leaders from the 1970’s; Michael Ignatieff making Tredeauesque social policy promises and Stephen Harper making Clarkeque like fiscal restraint commitments.
When I listen to Ignatieff speeches, they are laden with promises of government supporting specific …

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff may have made the first critical mistake of the 2011 federal election. Right out of the starting block he has given up the only leverage he had to become the next Prime Minister of Canada (for the 2nd time). In his campaign launch on Saturday, Mr. Ignatieff ruled out a forming a coalition government with any other federal party and even going so far as to say that whichever party wins the most seats should form the government. Why he would make it easier for the …
