Lack of ideas is not McGuinty’s problem

So, I hear that Dalton McGuinty is looking for new ideas.  Sorry, don’t have any that can help but there is one thing I know for sure.  Any promises that he makes during the election campaign are the ones he’s not going to do.  The policies we need to fear most are the ones he doesn’t talk about.  That was the case for the HST, the health tax and the hydro hikes just to name a few (he has a thing for H’s).
I will speculate that if Dalton McGuinty gets …

Ontario by the Numbers

If you were ever in doubt as to why the province of Ontario has no money and who is to blame, just look at these numbers I have compiled for the term of Dalton McGuinty as premier:

Program spending has gone up a whopping 90.5% since he took office.  And if you look at the forecast for 2010/11 which shows planned spending of an additional $7.8B, the growth in government spending is more than double over an eight year period.
There is no one the Liberal government can blame this on but …

McGuinty government has no money

The Ontario government does not have enough money to pay for all of its programs.  The Dalton McGuinty government has had to change its plan on how it is implementing its before and after care for full day kindergarten for 4 & 5 year olds.  Primarily driven by costs, the government has had to curtail its participation in the before and after programs opting for third party providers to offer the service at their own costs.
This is what happens when a government embarks on huge social program initiatives without proper …

Did Dalton McGuinty say the Ontario Economy is Dead?

On Wednesday, Premier Dalton McGuinty toured the Entrepreneur Centre at Ottawa city hall.  There he discussed the “sacrifices like paying the HST and footing increased hydro bills” Ontarians must make to help the provincial economy (CTV News: Premier defends HST in Ottawa).
These comments are similar to what McGuinty said recently in Orillia Ontario: “”But I think most people understand as well that the old economy — the one that was there before the recession — is not going to come back on its own. We’re going to have to build …

DAY 17 – 73 LEFT TO GO

Jim Watson is going to have to use every ounce of political skill he has, and maybe then some, to grab the top prize in the 2010 mayoral election in Ottawa.
I did a quick calculation and the90-day review of the ECO fee-asco will land it back in the news the week of October 11th, roughly two weeks before the municipal election date.  This will once again tie Watson with the unpopular McGuinty government right when he should be focusing on his strengths and convincing voters he’s the right man to …

McGuinty has a communications problem

I don’t know if it’s by design or a character flaw but Dalton McGuinty just can’t seem to communicate what his government is doing either in a timely or truthful manner.
The latest is the zero tolerance ban on drinking and driving for drivers under the age of 22 (why 22?). First, for the record, I support this new restriction 100%. I don’t why we had to wait until August 1, 2010 for it to become law since the bill became law in April 2009 but that’s another debate. …

Fill Up Your Car Before the HST Day!

Just a friendly reminder to fill up your car with gas today because starting at midnight, you will be dinged by Dalton McGuinty an additional 8% on each fill-up hereafter. You will notice that gas will jump to over $1.03 per litre for regular unleaded. The difference you are paying is all the Dalton McGuinty Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).
So, from here on out, every time you put gas in your car, please remind yourself not to vote Liberal in the next provincial election. You will get that chance …

The HST selling job

The provincial Liberal government is making its last minute push to convince Ontarians that the HST is a good tax that will not change very much. I received in the mail last week a booklet that lists a number of items that would be affected by the HST. These items were buried amongst many more items that would not be affected by the HST. Visually, it looks like most things will stay the same. This is not true.
Most services which were free of provincial sales tax …

What is it with Ontarians and their schools. Anytime a political party tries to make a change, the voters get loud and angry like they do for no other issue.
Premier Dalton McGuinty proposed to modify the sex ed curriculum for publically funded schools and the uproar was almost militant; parents threatening to pull their kids from school and teachers rebelling about being forced to teach something they didn’t want to teach. McGuinty tried to stand-up to the backlash saying that schools had no choice but in the end, …
