Nothing personal

According to David Reevely of the Ottawa Citizen and a couple of friends who called me yesterday, my previous post (2nd worst premier leads in polls), was over top.  Okay, I’ll agree begrudgingly.

I should not have said that Premier Dalton McGuinty is purposefully trying to make Ontario the worst economic performer in Canada.  I’m sure that he is not trying to do this.  But for all his programs and promises and taxes, the province is trending that way.

The tendency in politics lately has been to not fight politics on a policy level but to actually insinuate the opposition in actually anti-Canada or anti-Ontario as in this case.  Crossing the line of disagreeing with policy to actually accusing the politician of purposely wanting to harm his/her people is not right.

Rob Snow of CFRA recently had an interview with Madeleine Meilleur, Liberal cabinet minister running in Ottawa Vanier.  The Liberal government had just cut the food assistance ($250/month) to a muscular dystrophy patient who clearly needs the help.  The Minister went on to say that it’s sad case yet but the rules were recently changed and this patient no longer qualified.  To Mr. Snow credit, in his follow-up discussion he said that he felt that Mme Meilleur was genuinely sorry for this MD patient but he disagreed with a policy that the Liberal government supports that treats people like this.  Snow wondered aloud how much the people who conducted the study of the program were paid.

For the record, Dalton McGuinty is a good Canadian and a good person.  His policies, however, are not benefiting the people of Ontario.  The Fraser Institute study which put Ontario 2nd last of all provinces in economic performance and the poor patients who are being cut off much needed support demonstrate that the Liberal government is not working. So please forgive me if the fact that I will not be voting Liberal in October sometime shows through. Nothing personal.

Good post Blake, nobody would disagree that Dalton is a “nice guy” … he just happens to lead a party that has been a train wreck for this province. As the leader he wears that! Time for change!!!

Prove that the prov. of Ontario is under performing in comparison to the other provinces. Show the facts and figures. As Canada’s economic engine and thus greatly affect by external economic forces, does your claim stand up? It is not that I don’t believe you, but I see to often blanket statement with no supporting facts. I’m assuming you had some, but did not included them due to space limitations? If you do not have space for them here you are free to email them to me directly. Given the world and US economic circumstances, do you feel that any other party and leader could have done better? If so what supporting evidence would you have to support your choice of party and leader?

    Just a few thoughts.
