Ontario by the Numbers

Ontario by the Numbers

If you were ever in doubt as to why the province of Ontario has no money and who is to blame, just look at these numbers I have compiled for the term of Dalton McGuinty as premier:

Program spending has gone up a whopping 90.5% since he took office.  And if you look at the forecast for 2010/11 which shows planned spending of an additional $7.8B, the growth in government spending is more than double over an eight year period.

There is no one the Liberal government can blame this on but themselves.  They are the ones who set the budgets and control the spending therein.

The sad part of the McGuinty legacy is that he has implemented the two largest tax increases ever, each adding about $10B in revenue per year and even that has not helped the government cover its spending addiction.

The finger pointing has started for the 2011 election.  The Liberals are pointing all the way back to 2003 to try to lay blame for the state of the economy on the Mike Harris government; the government than ran five successive surplus budgets.  But the numbers don’t lie and the Liberal government can’t duck the blame.

These number are very bad on many different levels. It is clear we must finally draw the line in the sand and fight the battle with all of our energies to prevent the re-election of the Liberals in Ontario. Another victory would be catastrophic for the future of our Province.

First debt is the enemy of personal freedom and as these large Government organizations become more integrated into our life styles they can actually suck the incentive of the individual to become better since the social programs will take care of them. In the long term this spells the end for the real growth of our economy. This rapid growth of the deficit makes me fear for our standard of living and economic prosperity. Without the optimism of our Citizens that they will build a future, what is the purpose of even trying.

On the shorter term the fact that the Liberal Government can lie about the situation without any repercussions makes me fear for our democracy as well. Most voters will not think about the long term impacts of these kinds of policy issues and they will be very happy to accept the social programs. The Liberals get it and are prepared to lie in order to achieve the greater objective of socialism and Government control. Eventually this will lead to an erosion of our democratic rights. I believe now is the time for the Citizens to fight for the future well being before we become the Greece or Spain of North America. It is time to reign in spending!

Looks like an exercise in “how to lie with statistics”.

    1) Let’s see the numbers from 1995 through 2002 as well.

    2) Aside from the last two years of economic meltdown, bailouts, stimulus fund, etc — also mirrored by our federal Conservatives as well, so you can’t blame ideology — the budgets are about as close to balanced as one can expect from a government of this size.

@ dave0 – first, i’m not lying. i put all the raw data so you can come to your own conclusions but i also shared my conclusion. and second, the provincial liberals did not “mirror” te federal conservatives. the conservsatives lowered taxes, most notably, the GST. the mcguinty liberals raised taxes to the tune of $20b per year and they are still running huge deficits that are far higher on a per capita basis than their federal counterpart.

no mattter how you look at it, the mcguinty liberals have spent the province into poverty and we have very little to show for it.

ne thing we now for sure is that if the provicials liberals win again, the hydro rate rebate will be canceled our offset with even higher rates and the eco fee program will expand as originally planned for July 2010…and probably be higher.

that’s the mcguinty pattern regardless of what he says in this election so i fully expect that if they win a thrid term.

These numbers only tell half the story. McGuinty had to put
money back into programs that were drastically slashed by Harris,
including schools, hospitals, etc. You’re drawing a skewed pattern
by omitting the pre-Harris years, which means the full spectrum of
information is not shown by these numbers. With respect, -

Harris actually increased school spending $1.1 Billion. The points Brian refers to are the result of McGuinty et al doing what Gobbels suggested; tell a lie, tell it often, then it will be taken as fact.

McGuinty has lied in very dramatic fashion every election. No new taxes! Actually they just raised existing ones plus fees (health Fee..TAX!). They are completely unable to run a programme that is well thought out, affordable or even useful. Toss their asses out.
