Rainer Bloess Endorses Tim Tierney

Rainer Bloess Endorses Tim Tierney

Last night marks a major departure in the normal course of politics in this municipal election – at least at the councillor level.  In an odd twist of events, Rainer Bloess the sitting councillor in Innes Ward (Ward 2) came out publically to endorse challenger Tim Tierney running in the neighbouring ward of Beacon Hill-Cyrville (Ward 11).

It’s not important the exact words that Bloess said but suffice to say that he strongly believes that the residents of Beacon Hill – Cyrville are not being served well by its current councillor, Michel Bellemare, and that change will be an improvement for the ward and for improved contribution around the city council table.

There is an unwritten rule that councillors stay out of each other’s ward, but last night, Bloess blew that rule and went on to suggest to Tierney supporters to get out and vote for a new councillor and to get as many of their neighbours to do the same.

This endorsement is a huge one for Tierney who hopes this will push his campaign over the top and defeat an incumbent, a rarity in Ontario municipal politics.

Councillor Rainer Bloess endorsment of Tim Tierney who is running for Councillor was done because Rainer Bloess is looking for free publicity & desparate. Rainer Bloess is worried that he will be defeated on October 25 election by Roger Furmanczyk or his other 2 candidates running. He has lately put more street election signs that ever before in any previous City elections. He has also called one of his other running Councillor candidate Chris Fraser a man of different color than the three other white candidates. This was very racist but it was not reported by the media at the Blackburn Hamlet Community Association Debate October 07. Wonder why not.

Our Ward Councillors & Mayor need to go back to the basics; pay for our needs, not our wants, reduce borrowing with the objective of becoming debt free City of Ottawa. Replace most of the same old ward councillors who have been there for 16 years like Rainer Bloess on Election Day. I am a community builder. Vote for me Roger on Election Day Oct 25/2010 as your new Innes Ward Councillor. Thank you all. Merci Beaucoup.

I would not want an endorsement by a sitting councillor who was willing to leave his residents hanging out to dry. Rainer did that put his name on a bllot to run for another level of gov’t

Councillor Rainer Bloess is also thinking of running for the Provincial Liberal Election next year 2011 – so do you think he will be here in City Council as Councillor for the residents and taxpayers of Innes Ward 2 after this election October 25, 2010. He can not be trusted. This is a publicity stunt by Rainer Bloess. Do not vote for him on October 25. Replace most of the same old ward councillors who have been there for 16 years like Rainer Bloess on Election Day. I am a community builder. Vote for me Roger Furmanczyk on Election Day Oct 25/2010 as your new Innes Ward Councillor. Thank you all. Merci Beaucoup.

I don’t know Rainer… But Tierney seems to be giving Bellemare a run for his money.

He Rainer & Diane Deans both should not even be running for a council seat both tried for another level of gov’t both lost .The rules should be changed you run to serve the people for 4 years not try for something better .That shows very little respect for the people who vote for them .Shame on both of you Rainer / Diane Shame

  • NANCY said:

    mike name them please thanks

@ Mike… I think the difference is Mike the other endorsements were for a candidate who was running in an open ward. The Rainer endorsement is against a fellow councillor. If Tierney loses, not sure Rainer and Bellemare will speak much for the next 4 years.

Would you blame Bellemare nice to know who your friends are shame on you Bloess stabbing your fellow councillor in the back

Whats with the cowboy hat Timmy

Cowboy hat because there was a fundraiser at the Lone Star yesterday evening.

@Roger – 2 plugs for yourself in the same thread is 1 plug short of spamming, and very desperate.
@Nancy – ‘Twas a Cowboy themed event. And Rainer Bloess doesn’t owe Bellemare a thing. For Rainer Bloess to stab Bellemare in the back there would have had to have been some loyalty, friendship or relationship between the 2. Bellemare doesn’t show up to enough city council meetings to create any friendly bonds. Hell, he doesn’t show up in the ward often enough to recognize more than a 1/2 dozen people. I’m going to guess Rainer Bloess is sick of working very hard for the same pay as Bellemare who only performs the legally mandated minimum. Other politicians come out in support of others at other levels, why can’t Rainer Bloess? There is no shame in calling a spade a spade, and Rainer Bloess was calling Bellemare useless as a councillor. Bellemare wouldn’t vote on regional issues with the other East end councillors, making the East end the have-nots of the city, while the West end councillors (who tend to vote together) make it look like Kanata and the West end get more from the city. If you drive around the West end and think “Why can’t we have this, or that, or whatever in the East end” it’s because the East end was always one vote, one voice, one councillor short of getting the nice stuff the West end gets (wider lanes, more bike paths, nicer bridges, more street lights, newer recreational facilities, etc.) And remember what you said the next time you say something in support of somebody else, because there is almost definitely a link to the person you are opposing, and they will say “shame on you”.

Wow, what’s with all these negative comments…
Rainer is a great councillor and he is just helping a friend out. If Tim is a better candidate *and HE IS*, why not? What matters is that the best candidate gets elected, that should overpower any kind of unwritten ”code” among councillors. It’s not about ”friendship” between councillors; it’s about electing whoever can serve best the citizens of Beacon Hill-Cyrville.
Congrats Tim, you are doing great! (And the cowboy hat looks good!)

Nancy/Andy – sorry didn’t get back to you – the names (and there are 3) of councillors wading into the fight in other wards are Feltmate, who’s retiring for Helleman; and Wilkinson and El-Chantiry for Favreau all in Kanata South. And for sure Andy its not a parallel to the councillor v councillor situation.

This is very sad as Tim Tierney is pro the Kettle Island Bridge going right across our neighborhood. Did you’ll know this?

  • Patti said:

Actually so is RAiner Bloess – wakeup people you are very aware of the traffic issues on Montreal and Cyrville Roads on a daily basis do we want this huge bridge coming through our neighborhood and bringing up the noise pollution, air pollution, invading our greenspace and bringing down our property value?

  • MoreFluorideNow! said:

Patti, it’s sad that you would believe a smear campaign by a very scared Bellemare. Just because loud people oppose things doesn’t mean it’s bad. A bridge at Mason-Angers would be expensive and nobody would use it. the trucks wouldn’t be forced to use it, any more than we can force you to stop spreading Bellemare’s garbage. The ACTUAL story is this: the Beacon Hill North Community Association (as well as many other community associations) have backed the tunnel option from the 417 at Lees to the bridge at the end of King Edward. Bellemare is frightened and spreading these half-truths. He’s about as believable as Brooke’s fluoridation platform. Sad, Patti. Very sad. You shouldn’t believe everything you read that comes on a photocopied paper in your mailbox. Those of us who are concerned read a lot more than flyers from our mailbox, we research more than following what a website says. We get involved and get to the bottom of things. Bellemare has been to 1 of these meetings, and has been booed (nearly booed off stage) at 2 debates when proposing the Mason-Angers route. Tim Tierney clearly explained his position and the position of the BHNCA, our MP, and MPP. Seriously, if you can’t be bothered to follow up like an adult, maybe your parents should block your Internet access.
